Nothing new under the sun
"You've NEVER read a Spidey story like P.O.V3!"
So proclaimed the cover of this week's Amazing Spider-Man. I hate to complain about the book because even though I loathed the way they got here, I have been enjoying the new status quo - but this issue was just a damp squib.
The problem is that I have seen it before. I've seen the 'different points of view of the same event' thing done on everything from E.R. to Star Trek: The Next Generation and, oh yeah, Rashomon. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
More to the point, I saw it done better and more humorously over 20 years ago in this book:
Spidey, Mary Jane and Jonah all tell their version of a bank robbery they were all a part of. Jonah's the hero in his version, MJ fascinates the robber in her version and only in Peter's version do we see that the bank robber is just a pathetic guy who's had a bad turn of luck.
So sorry, Spidey-trust, I have seen a Spidey tale like it before and it was done better.
That said, I'm still enjoying Brand New Day more than I did the few years of the title before the change...
