Batman RIP WTF?

I'd say there were spoilers for this week's Batman #678 below, but that would imply that I had a clue what was going on.

I guess Morrison really has been raiding the back issues, like Batman #113, a Silver Age goofball tale where Batman is transported to the planet Zur-En-Arrh by the Batman of that planet. And yes, it's as stupid as it sounds....

Not only does he have a super-telescope, but ol'Batman of Zur-En-Arrh also has...the Bat-Radia!

At the end of their adventure, Batman of Zur-En-Arrh gives this to Batman as a souvenir:

Now at the start of the new issue, we start with this view as Tim Drake reads Batman's journals from his early years:

Hmm...that dialog is familiar...

The images that accompany the journals not only include the Bat-Radia (!) but also, interestingly, the original Batwoman who got retconned out of existence years ago. The journals detail how Batman seems to be having trouble with the sheer insanity of the people he's fighting, such as the Joker, and that he needs to understand their insanity.

So I'm confused: are these goofy Silver Age stories now supposed to be a result of Batman going insane all those years ago?

I guess that would make a certain amount of sense...

Anyway, a drugged up Bruce, dumped on the street by the mysterious Black Glove - after encountering the ghost of someone he couldn't possibly know - ends up making his own costume from something the ghost gave him and some more repurposed dialog...

...and he appears to be shadowed by Bat-Mite. What the hell?!?

I still have no clue what's going on, but it seems to have turned into a fascinating car wreck of a series. I have absolutely no confidence that Morrison can pull this together in the time he has left to do so.

Maybe I'm wrong.

In other news, Nightwing got pwned (as the kids were saying last year) by some woman in a jester hat that we've never seen before this storyline.

Oh yeah, and he got pwned off panel because the next time we see him he's in Arkham...

Sigh.

Well I guess at least people are talking about it...

OK, so where is Morrison going with this whole Bat-Radia/Alternate Earth Batman thing?

I have absolutely no idea if this is something I want to be a part of...

I think a strong apocalyptic/biblical theme is recurring in this storyline. I think Morrison is doing the Book of Job as applied to Batman. Can the incorruptible savior of Gotham be corrupted? I think it would be clever if Bruce is the adopted child of Thomas and Martha Wayne-and Ras Al Ghul aka the Demon is his biological father.

Now I remember that red costume...Man to many alternate universes kinda complicates things.

C'mon. DC is going to be showcasing the bad guys. What do you think Catwoman saw under Hush's bandages? Who is he altering himself to look like? Bruce Wayne of course. Hush will replace him but not as a good guy(?)

Something like that,
as Jason said, Hush is using the face o Bruce, but probably he'll die and the whole city will think that bruce wayne is dead, folowing this thought the RIP will be not to Batman, but for his alter ego.
Quite possible, 'cause figuring out all about his parents, bruce will face a desolation as a human, so will be just batman, nothing else!
Strange and improbable, I dunno!! =P
