Seriously.

Potential spoiler below. There used to be a jump so you could click on it, but blogger fritzed up so you'll just have to scroll down...

Don't read any further if you don't want a spoiler.

Seriously.

Last chance to avoid a big conjecture-y spoiler...

Okay, the LA Times ran an interview with Aaron Eckhart about his role as Harvey Dent - and his transformation into Two-Face. In it he says this:

"The difference between Batman and Two-Face is how far they are willing to go and how they make their point," Eckhart said. "Otherwise, we're talking about vigilante crime-fighting. That's what Batman is all about. He has a strong sense of justice. And Harvey Dent has an extremely strong sense of justice. His fiancée is killed. He's horribly injured. But he is still true to himself. He's a crime fighter, he's not killing good people. He's not a bad guy, not purely."

Wait. Let's see part of that again

His fiancée is killed. He's horribly injured.

Hmm. Also from the article:

Two-Face in the film is more of a vigilante hunting down the Joker than he is a criminal, as he has most often been portrayed in the comics.

So it wouldn't be a stretch to guess that it's the Joker that kills his fiancée and scars Harvey, sending the deranged Two-Face on a hunt for the clown prince of crime.

But here's the thing: Rachel and Harvey seem awfully close in the trailer.

Rachel tells Bruce "Don't make me your only hope for a normal life" - maybe because she's engaged (or about to get engaged) to Harvey...and Harvey does ask Alfred if she has any psychotic ex-boyfriends.

Then - and this is where we add two and two - there is a scene in the trailer where Joker appears to throw Rachel off a roof:

So.

Rachel and Harvey get serious, maybe at the gala which the Joker crashes. Joker kills Rachel and scars Harvey - and Two-Face goes after the Joker with a vengeance. Batman and Two-Face are after the same thing - revenge and justice for the woman they both love, and what separates them is their method.

This would serve a few purposes - prove that the Joker is really evil by killing an innocent; giving Two-Face a strong motivation and cause him to be very sympathetic; highlight the difference between Bruce and Harvey - and, oh yeah, get rid of Bruce's pesky love interest.

What do you think?

Oh, and because Warner Bros had LITG take it down...the concept art for Two-Face...

Not to be a smart arse, but isn't that all what most of us have been expecting? Not surprised, but certainly not disappointed, either.

Cannot wait!

Mike - the spoiler I was talking about was that Rachel dies, not Two Face being 'created' by the Joker. The second I was expecting - the first I hadn't heard in the slightest.

And you? Smart arse? Never! :p

Oh, I thought Rachel Dawes' death was a given the minute Gordon turned over the playing card. Maybe it was just me.

To paraphrase Harrison Ford, 'I though the bitch should die.' :-p
