Yes, yes, we know that Ryan Reynolds is going to be slipping into Hal Jordan's flightsuit for the upcoming Green Lantern movie but (to steal a title) what if the current Green Lantern comic had been cast in the 1980s?
Who'd be donning the GL suit then?
Easy: Sam Shepard's performance as fearless test pilot Chuck Yeager in The Right Stuff more than proved that he'd be a perfect fit for fearless test pilot-turned-intergalactic-cop Hal Jordan.
But every character needs a thorn in his side, and just as Dennis Quaid's Gordo Cooper - also in The Right Stuff - butted heads with just about everyone he came into contact with, so would his Guy Gardner.
She might be crazier than a bagful of ferrets, but there's no denying that Sean Young would bring an element of class to Carol Ferris - just as long as she kept her Catwoman costume out of the equation.
Then again, every man should have a choice between blonde and brunette, so why not have Kelly Preston sashay into Cowgirl's boots and suit up as a fighter pilot too?
If I had my way, of course, a GL movie would also feature John Stewart - and who better to play him than 80s tough guy Carl Weathers?
And as we're talking Predator, I'm going to throw in pre-Governor Jesse Ventura in there as Kilowog to boot.
Unfortunately I couldn't think of any Inuit actors, but if we recast Hal's engineer Tom Kamalku as an Asian American, I can't think of anyone better than the ubiquitous Al Leong - you may not know his name, but you'll know his face!
Finally, of course, there's the villain of the piece - and I challenge you to find a better Sinestro than Jeremy Irons, no matter what his age!
Inspired by Twitter this morning!

Rich's Pull List - 22nd July 2009
Another big week thanks to Marvel and its unlikely anniversaries - and a surprise from DC...
Final Crisis: Legion of Three Worlds #5 - This is the surprise! Almost a year (#1 was released August 20th 2008) after it started, this five issue monthly mini series comes to a close. I'm not saying that it's not worth it for George Perez's art on the Legion(s) and the return of Superboy and Kid Flash but come on, that's ridiculous. It's not 27-issues-in-11-years ridiculous, but still...
Gotham City Sirens #2 - The first issue was okay, so I'm giving this a go - but more for the art than the story. I'm not sure where Paul Dini went wrong, but his heart doesn't seem to be in the Batbooks right now; I'd rather see that Zatanna we keep getting promised.
Green Lantern #44 - So apparently there's this crossover, see...
The Outsiders #20 - I need to reread this since the relaunch, because it can't be as incoherent as I always think it is, right? Right?
Supergirl #43 - Still a bright spot in DC's roster, and it has been since the creative relaunch it received. Good stuff.
All-New Savage She-Hulk #4 - This has been surprisingly good in spite of the sidelining of Jen Walters. Be interested to see what happens to the new She-Hulk from here, and whether she's sticking around or heading back to the future.
Amazing Spider-Man #600 - 104 pages of new content (apparently) including May's wedding and the return of Doc Ock. Can't wait.
Avengers The Initiative #26 - Maybe. I like the book, I'm interested in the new direction, anything with the Wrecking Crew is a plus, but...I need to cut back somewhere.
Captain Britain And MI 13 #15 - Then again, this is the final issue so there's an opening in my reading list, I guess.
Dark Reign Fantastic Four #5 - This has been...okay, I guess. I'm still not sure that making Reed all guilt-ridden and driven is a good idea. Having said that, I'm looking forward to the FF facing off against Norman and HAMMER.
Guardians Of The Galaxy #16 - Look, it's still awesome. Go buy it, okay?
Incredible Hercules #131 - Ditto.
Incredible Hulk #600 - It doesn't add up! The math here doesn't work but I may pick this up because (a) the new Pak-penned Hulk book spins out of it and (b) Jen Walters' status quo is going to be all shook up. On the other hand, it does involve Loeb and Rulk so...
Nova #27 - See Guardians Of The Galaxy, above. Same applies here!
X-Force #17 - I'm picking this up to see the resolution of the pre-Messiah War storyline...but if Boom Boom is really dead, fear my wrath!

What are we going to do tonight, Brain?
Sometimes you just need some Pinky and the Brain in your life...
9 - Exclusive Clip
Those lucky enough to be heading to SDCC this year (swines, all of you) could do worse than attend the 9 panel on Friday in Hall H with Shane Acker, Tim Burton, Timur Bekmambetov, Elijah Wood and Jennifer Connelly.
Ah, Jennifer Connelly...
Anyway, the film is looking pretty good...

DV8 Returns!
I loved DV8 back when it came out under Warren Ellis and Humberto Ramos - it was dark, funny, sadistic and a little bit ahead of its time - so this Brian Wood relaunch intrigues me. Thing is, I'm not really up to speed with the Wildstorm Universe at the moment.
Is it all still post-apocalyptic and stuff?
Actually, is anyone still reading Wildstorm comics?
High Moon. Batman. Awesomeness.
If you're headed to San Diego you could spend your $35 on a lot worse things than these great prints by High Moon's Steve Ellis!
Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow

Alright. I had my doubts, but they're pretty much gone now.
I approve this casting.
Although Mickey Rourke's Whiplash still looks kinda stupid...
Also in EW - Gwyneth Paltrow, presumably not as she'll appear in the movie.
Although...Pepper Potts...

Joe Kelly: Spidey Vs. Deadpool
Excellent news! According to MTV News, Joe Kelly's #611 of Amazing Spider-Man book will be a Spidey-Deadpool-palooza!
(And Skottie Young's cover is pretty sweet!)
Marvel's really pushing Deadpool these days - wonder if that'll ease up now a Ryan Reynolds-headed movie may not happen?
AICN @$$holes bait Liefeld...
...because, you know, Shatterstar's not gay according to Rob.
Only he is.
And he's staying that way at least until there's another EiC at Marvel.

Oh...
...so that 'The End' teaser a few weeks back was about the Ultimate universe.
Well in that case, I have zero interest in it!
